Barbie B--What are you thinking?

“Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., signed a challenge mounted by House Democrats to Ohio’s 20 electoral votes, which put Bush over the top. By law, a protest signed by members of the House and Senate requires both chambers to meet separately for up to two hours to consider it.” (Associated Press, January 6, 2005)

Boxer’s political grandstanding on behalf of her party calls into question the direction that Democrats are headed. Here in California the Democratic leadership is represented by Speaker Fabian Nunez, who is a joint author of legislation to legalize same-sex marriage in California. Members of his caucus have reintroduced legislation to legalize drivers’ licenses for illegal immigrants and have also introduced legislation to legalize doctor-assisted suicide in the state.

California Democrats actually believe this sort of thing brings respect to them and to the state from the rest of the country. Ain't California somethin'?

The worst thing is that a lot of people outside of California think this is laudable. What an idiot!

But in Northern California, it's the norm.

Off topic, but I saw someone coming through to Happy Catholic from a comment that you'd made about liking their site (not sure which blog it is as it links only to the Haloscan comment). Anyway, you put my URL in ... so if they want to find you they're coming to me instead. Just something to look for. :-)

California is a great place, but the politics of a handful of counties, L.A., S.F., Almeda (sp?), Marin, Napa, has spoiled the reputation of the state. I think a resident of Fresno, Modesto or San Bernadino has alot more in common with a resident of Centerville, Texas than with a resident of Sausalito.
In terms of Boxer, where was Pelosi? Is she taking a cue from Hillary and repositioning to the center?

Julie D.: Oops. Thanks for the heads up.

Anonymous: You are right about the cities you mention having much in common with Centerville, TX. However, they are not population centers and don't get the media attention.

I don't question whether Nunez and Boxer are following their personal beliefs. My question was, is that the direction the Democratic Party wants to go? Any ticket just a little more moderate than Kerry/Edwards would have beaten Bush/Cheney. Why do Dems insist on drawing attention to their most liberal views?
